JB Gill could be about to make history in the Strictly Come Dancing final, it’s been revealed.

The JLS singer, 38, has a tricky journey on the BBC One competition, after his original pro partner Amy Dowden was forced to step down due to an injury.

Lauren Oakley instead took her place, and the pair have now made it to the final, along with comedian Chris McCausland and his partner Dianne Buswell, Love Island’s Tasha Ghouri and Aljaz Skorjanec, and Miranda actress Sarah Hadland with reigning champ Vito Coppola.

Having made it this far – and having topped the leaderboard again last week – it would be no surprise if JB were to lift the glitterball trophy.

He’d be following in the footsteps of several boyband stars before him, including McFly’s Harry Judd, who won in 2011 and was partnered with Aliona Vilani, and The Wanted’s Jay McGuinness in 2015, who was also partnered with Aliona.

But JB could be about to beat them all and make history.

As was revealed on Thursday’s It Takes Two by broadcaster OJ Borg, the Beat Again hitmaker and his pro partner have received 17 scores of ten over the season. Seven of those were awarded just last Saturday.

‘I was curious to see how JB compares to other boyband members,’ OJ explained to host Janette Manrara.

He went on to show that JB had the highest total scores of the three, with Harry having received 414, Jay on 435, and JB on 450.

Announcing that JB had clearly broken a record, he said: ‘There you go, the highest ever going into the final as a boyband member.’

Speaking to Metro ahead of the final, JB simply said ‘never say never’ to the prospect of becoming a professional dancer.

‘When my agent spoke to me about doing Strictly, I was all in. It’s an incredible opportunity.

‘The thought of being able to learn so many different styles of dance was amazing.

‘[Considering] it’s Strictly’s 20th anniversary as well, it was a no-brainer,’ he told us.

When asked if he’d (in the words of Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman) keeeeeeep dancing, he said: ‘I would never, ever say never. After shows like Strictly, the winners have gone into musical theatre and stage productions – they’ve taken their dancing experience further.

‘That’s something I would love to do. There’s nothing in the plans yet, but, never say never.’

The Strictly Come Dancing 2024 final airs on Saturday at 6pm on BBC One and iPlayer.
